1881 Heritage

Relive the old days of Victorian-era Hong Kong. Once the Royal Marine Police headquarters from 1880s to 1996, 1881 Heritage is one of the four oldest surviving government buildings left in Hong Kong. By carefully preserving its rich colonial background while looking forward to the future, 1881 Heritage tastefully blends historical architecture with contemporary pursuits. Today, visitors can explore the Stable Block, Time Ball Tower, Old Kowloon Fire Station, and the Fire Station Accommodation Block. Those looking to pamper themselves will be happy to find out that this boutique mall houses many luxury brands and internationally acclaimed fine dining restaurants. Experience the best of Hong Kong’s past and present in 1881 Heritage.

Tips: Head over to the time bell tower so you can listen to classical music playing when the clock strikes hourly.

Avenue of Stars

Enjoy the splendid harbour view as you take a stroll along this waterfront promenade. Remember to look out for the handprints and sculptures of spectacular movie stars and filmmakers like Jackie Chan, Jet Li, a 2.5-metre bronze statue of Bruce Lee, and more. Take selfies with these sculptures along the waterfront, compare hand sizes on the handprint plaques and enjoy themed exhibitions to learn more about the rich history of Hong Kong’s film industry. Come nightfall, and the place is a popular vantage point for the Symphony of Lights display. This daily light and sound show is the largest of its kind in the world. The 14 minutes orchestration of music, decoration lights, laser light displays, and pyrotechnic fireworks will be sure to impress. Screen reader support enabled.

Temple Street Night Market

When the sun goes down, the traders have already laid out their wares, and the opera singers and fortune tellers begin to emerge. Welcome to the Temple Street Night Market, a popular street bazaar named after a Tin Hau temple located in the centre of its main drag and a place so steeped in local atmosphere that it has served as the backdrop to many a memorable movie. Trinkets, teaware, electronics, watches, menswear, jade, and antiques are scrutinised and haggled over, while claypot rice, seafood, noodles, and other treats are consumed with gusto. Temple Street Night Market is an enduring example of the theatre and festivity of a Chinese market. And it’s on show nightly.

Fong Wing Kee

What keeps people coming back to Fong Wing Kee Hot Pot since they first opened in 1952 is their signature homemade satay hot pot broth. The broth is known to be one of the thickest and intensely flavored in Hong Kong, almost like a stew. It’s on a sweeter note, almost like Cantonese-style broth, which perfectly coats everything you cook inside the broth with a nice layer of satay flavour. TLA recommends adding hand-cut beef slices, deep-fried fish skin, and instant noodles.
