Travelodge Central, Hollywood Road

Upper Lascar Row (Cat Street)

This street is a popular tourist attraction where you can find a fantastic congregation of antique dealers, curio merchants and art galleries. This is also the place to visit to buy jade, silk products, embroideries and wooden handicraft items at a steal! Upper Lascar Row is a narrow alley in Mid-Levels which runs parallel to Hollywood Road on the north side. The 1920’s saw the neighbourhood transformed into a marketplace for second-hand goods and antiques. It also became a place where stolen goods end up in. In Cantonese, stolen goods are known as ‘rat goods’ and people who rummage around the markets and purchase these goods are called cats – hence the name Cat Street. Today, you will find antique dealers selling copper mirrors, jade gems, watches, ancient coins, Qing dynasty vases, stamps and even Chairman Mao figurines.
